Judging by the fact Apple products are always the same price, regardless of retailer or time in product cycle, I'm guessing Apple fix their prices. So how come they're allowed to do so when I'm sure I've read numerous news stories of companies being done for price fixing?

It is not price fixing. Please read the legal definition of price fixing.

They set a minimum advertised price with their resellers, and there isn't much margin for the resellers, so ... they usually choose to sell at the same price.

exactly. there are rarely discounts because Apple gets the margins not the resellers, and they agree to sell it at a certain price.

but, in any event, this is not what price-fixing is. this might help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_fixing
