...could it be their international sales? To hear people talk, you'd think the American economy is unraveling, but iPhone and Mac sales are doing better than ever. (?)

Because you don't need cars or gasoline to use your Mac or iPhone.

ZING!

(and before some smart speck mentions that Macs use electricity, which, in part, is generated using gasoline... shut your hole)

Because it's luxury spending

Because some types of spending, like gambling, goes up as the local economy gets worse

Because "the economy" is not homogenous, there are always people who do well, and people who do not so well. "The Economy" doesn't buy phones, people do.

Because Apple makes things that make you want to buy them, as opposed to stuff people hate to buy but need to buy (i.e. gas, food, rent, etc). :p

Spot on. Although "not so well" sounds too much like a Government minister to me!:D more like ... some people lose their homes whilst others add to their portfolio.

The current inflation doesn't seem to be affecting technology prices much. Whereas food and gas and such have gone up, the price of computers and related equipment has remained much the same, if not actually gotten cheaper.

Computers are more affordable than ever and will continue to get more so.

Probably people also can not get rid of their SUV they spent $35,000 on 4 years ago for more than $50. So instead of buying new car they are getting a Mac and other cheaper luxury items and spending the rest on higher gas and food prices.
