Ok, this one is a curiosity.

When I look at the options Apple give me (built-in, no third party app) to "protect battery health" :

MacBook Air M3 : Optimized charging. Basically the OS learn my usage pattern and try to predict when I'll need to be at 100%, and keep the laptop at 80% until the last moment when it think I will unplug the MBA. Also will keep battery at 80% if it detect that it is mostly plugged in. No option to simply limit charging manually at 80%.

iPad Air M2 : One simple option to limit charging at 80%. No Optimized charging option. No variable limits (80% or nothing.)

iPhone 12 : Optimized charging like the MBA. No option to set a hard limit on charging like the iPad.

iPhone 16 : Both Optimized charging like the MBA or the option to manually set a hard limit : 80% - 85% - 90% - 95%

...

So my question is : Why does none of my Apple Devices (and the MacBook, the iPad Air and the iPhone 16 are all "current models") offer the same charging options ? Is there a technical reason or is it only that Apple software is kind of inconsistent these days ?

They are all of different vintages. Are you running the exact same iOS on the ipad and phones? Even if yes, it's likely that the 12 doesn't have the same battery sensors as the 16 or the iPad. The MBA is running a different operating system.
