I just brought my 24" home and I must say I am impressed at both how great the (glossy) screen looks and how fast this thing really is.

I can't imagine why some people are complaining about such a nice screen?

A glossy screen for graphic design is not the best. Color doesn't appear as they should.

For the normal user, I guess it is not a big problem, but still, some people prefer matte.

Because some people (including me) cannot stand using screens that reflect everything like mirrors, are prone to glare, very easily get smudges, over saturate everything on the screen, you get eye strain after extended use, and are harder to clean. I think that summed everything up. I especially can't stand using a screen that is basically a mirror, I can't concentrate when I see everything that is behind me on the screens. Glossy screens are great for people who can live with all of it's flaws, but some people just can't use them.

I think people are so used to matte these days, they overblow the glare problem. I'm using an old, old PC monitor that has some glare...if I opened the window.

It's not as big a deal as some people think.

ibookg4user, judging from your comment I doubt there's anything out there that would live up to your standards.

oh well, to each their own I guess.

I was naming all the issues that people have with glossy not all of them are my personal gripes with it. I personally only dislike that glossy screens oversaturate all the images that are on the screen and that the screen is basically a mirror. And there are a lot of things that live up to my standards, I'm still quite happy with my MacBook Pro which is nearly a year old, my iPhone is great and I have no issues with it, etc. Glossy screens are just one thing that I absolutely cannot use, that's one of the major reasons why I got a MacBook Pro.

I am typing this on my brand new 24" I just brought home today. I am staring at the screen right now and I can tell you there is NO glare at all. Now i shifted my gaze to a totally black area of the screen and I can see a tiny bit. BUT I would never view my screen this way in actual use.

The glare complaint is completely overhyped.
