Hi folks. I'm working on reorganizing and cleaning up my Photos library, specifically the videos. I exported all of them to 1080p (not using the Unmodified setting because I wanted to convert the 4k to 1080 to save space) and I notice tons of the videos have a filename.mov and also a filename.mov (1) file. The file with the (1) suffix is a bit smaller than the file without the suffix. I want to know what the purpose of this is and how to stop this from happening in the future. Thanks.

Why do you shoot in 4k only to throw away the 4k?

Well I planned on shooting everything in 4k going forward until the space started to add up. As Apple refuses to have an iCloud storage tier between 200GB and 10 times that (ridiculous), I'm reducing everything down to 1080 because I don't want to pay $10 for almost 800GB of storage space I don't need.

What in the world does iCloud have to do with it? Now, if you were complaining about how much storage space backing all that up was taking, I'd understand (but not agree with), but iCloud is irrelevant.

I am talking about iCloud backup. I don’t really need 4K for home movies and I dont’ want to pay for a ridiculous amount of storage I don’t need. I’m really just looking for an answer to my question.

I can't tell you with certainty as to why the files are of different size. The (1) indicates that you have two files with the same name. What you can do is a Get Info on each version of the video and see if there are any differences noted.
