Why are watch bands so short?

Yeah really, I can't find a watch with a leather band long enough to go around my wrist to save my life. I like pretty watches just like the next guy, but you'll never see one on my wrist for that very same reason.

I measured my wrist tonight with one of those measuring tapes that tailors use. As it turns out, my left wrist measures 8.25 inches around. Is that too much to ask for from you watch makers? :rolleyes:

seriously though, if you have a cellphone, that makes a handy pocket watch.

though, you truly cant go wrong with a nicely made timepiece. Even if most likely its all digital inside.
 
I have the exact opposite problem.

Most watches are made to big for me. Most of the time I can get them sized, but with most watches the first two link are set a certain curvature, which is to big for my wrist. Anything without a flexible first link means the watch is out for me.

Just measured my wrist, its just over 6''
 
Have you tried Google?

The first hit http://www.watchbands.com/custom.aspx,,id,,1 claim to have bands as long as 9". They do come in different lengths even when you buy replacements at Target or the like... You just need a long or extra long.

I'm with Koodauw in that I generally need a smaller band that what ships with the watch...

Yes I've Googled some bands and like you said, they're avaliable, but I just wanted to rant about this to my fellow MR memebers. :)

It's not really that big of a wrist. There's plenty of guys out there that make me look like a shrimp. ;)

I can't find a ruler, but I wrapped my mouse cable around my wrist and it stretches from the outside edges Q to O on my iMac keyboard. Anyone tell me how far that is?

It can't be that big, I always have problem with watches. I had to take half the links out of my Fossil.

It's 6.5", it's the same as my wrist.

For some reason, I keep on thinking another "thing" we are measuring. :D

I have the same problem too. Lost heaps of weight-so did my wrist! I just measured my wrist it is 6 inches
 
My wrist is about 6" around and I find myself having to use the tightest possible spot on the band... and then the problem is the band stretches (I dun have a fancy metal one :p). I don't think I've ever seen much variation in men's watch band sizes either, all the ones I've had have been the same size.
 
Tell the truth, I haven't worn a watch in donkey's. But I think they are beautiful things. Time Magazine always has adverts for priceless timepieces. Still, in this age of mobile phones they aren't necessary for me.
 
I have the same problem , my wrists are 8.25" R and 8" L and I am a girl
I don't even bother trying on girl watches or bracelets

and for the stupid question of how they got that way : archery, horseback riding, sword and staff practice plus gymnastics and tae kwon do.

To the OP, I know you specified leather, but have you considered a metal one? It's simple to add links, so your wrist size isn't a problem.

I went to metal after getting a "stretchy" band (which eventually broke) and it's much better :)

If you can tough it out for maximum a week, you won't feel anything after that. I have one to those "stretchy" metal ones (female, here) that grabbed onto any follicle it could find, but it was a gift from my Grandmother so I kept wearing it - and I adjusted in no time flat. If I put it on my other wrist, it grabs at everything.

The body is very adaptable to pain.

PS. 5.5 inches here. Tiny, but then, I am a girl. My boyfriend was putting handcuffs on me, and I kept slipping out of them because he didn't make them tight enough.

PPS. He's in police college and has regulation cuffs and was showing them to me, as we discussed takeout manoeuvers. Sorry, nothing kinky here... yet.:p
