Compared to AT&T

So what is your edge data usage? How much would it cost us poor Canadians if we had the privileged.

I had a Rogers Cust. Supt. person tell me that Apple was trying to talk with Rogers re their data plan rates. Due to the lack of competition though there is no need to reduce the rates.

ps. I have read the "other" Rogers thread.

So far I've used 70MB on EDGE and I've had the iPhone for 13 days, I'd have to have the $100 a month plan. But wow, those prices are outrageous!

I don't think I understand the OP. I thought America was evil and our greedy Telcos stuck it to us with horrible service contracts. If only we could have a system like the rest of the world uses, everything would be peachy.

/sarcasm off

I'll take a 2 year committment and a locked iPhone over that rate plan any day.

From what my cousins were telling me, the voice plans are much more reasonable in Canada, especially when roaming.

My voice plan (no data) is $44 for 700min anytime, evening and weekends unlimited starting at 8pm to 7am. For an Extra $10 I have call waiting, voicemail, caller ID, 125 sms. The AT&T $79.99 plan is what I would go for if I had the choice.

Anyone else have any data stats? curious what an average would be.

So far we have a 70mb for 13 days. That would be about 161mb a month. Would cost me a total of $154 a month for voice and data up to 200mb. Ouch! Like 79.99 better.

These numbers will change.

It doesn't cost that much money to provide data through the phone. The mistake that these people make is that they price it high, so people don't use it. Those that need data will use it as carefully as possible to avoid the cost.

They could make the same or more money by offering data plans cheaper, because then people would actually use them. I would bet that an iPhone will come with a reasonably priced unlimited data plan, or it won't come. If you have more than one provider in Canada, then it will come.
