iPod Why can't apple get the nano's battery indicator right?

I don't know what it is--every iPod nano I've had will stay full for a little while, then drop fairly drastically to half or less, then flirt with the yellow/red like it's almost out, then jump back up to half or more.

all three 5th gens do it, and my 4th gen did it too.

and yes, ive run the battery all the way down to dead to reset the battery indicator and still they are always wonky. also fwiw if i set the ipod down using apples testing conditions playing music continuously, ill get the advertised battery life if not more so the batteries are good. just really really wonky indicators

I do all the time, I've gotten used to it. I go more by my mental battery indicator which is "Alright, I gave this thing a full charge 3 hours ago so it's still fine. It's lying to me because it doesn't like my playlist!"

This isn't just a iPod thing, its pretty common for battery indicators to be wrong on quite a few devices..this happens because certain tasks use more battery power than others. For example, higher bit rate songs are larger therefore requires more processing than lower bit rate songs.

In essence, it is impossible to get a 100% accurate battery gauge for any device.

On most products it takes some time for the battery gauge to get more accurate, but they never do get 100% accurate.

Yeah, it just seems like the nanos are always terribly inaccurate, compared to say a classic which seems to be dead on and never jump around.
