Why can't I control volume?

Ever since I reset the PRAM (to fix another problem that still isn't getting fixed), I can't change the volume on mac speakers, but when I plug in my stereo set, I can change the volume all I want on those.

Any fix??

Dumb question but did you go into system prefs the sound, and make sure the mac speakers are set, or did you try changing the volume in that section

Yes.

I restarted the PRAM and it worked again, restarted the computer again and now its not working anymore.
