why cant i jailbreak

Ive been trying to jailbreak now but im having no luck what so ever. I have the 3G...not the 3gs and ive been following all the instructions on the sites and downloading things when it says n clicking all the right stuff but im having totally no luck

Can someone please tell me what im doing wrong or shed any light on how to do it correctly. Is it true that i have to set the software back to 3.0 to jailbreak and could anyone provide a simple walkthrough how to do this.
Ive also just had to restore my phone because the jailbreak went wrong and now i have the new software something like 3.0.2

Please help me i seriously want to jailbreak

Nobody is going to be able to tell you what you're doing wrong if you don't tell us what you're doing. All you've told us is that you're doing everything right, which is clearly not the case. You didn't even bother to check and see what firmware you actually have.

If I understand correctly, you are on 3G with 3.1.2. If so, you will have to downgrade to 3.0 using a shift-restore or option-restore, then jailbreak using redsn0w. Why don't you try that and then let us know how that worked out for you. Then if you want help upgrading to 3.1 jailbreak we can point you in the right direction.

As far as im aware i followed all the insructions correcty but it just wont jailbreak. thanks for the help

How can you be on 3.2 when the newest firmware update is just 3.1.2 only released about 3-4 hours ago :confused:

Hey YoungWolf.... when jailbreaking DETAILS are extremely important and you cannot just rush through it until you get some experience. I am getting some insight into why you cannot be successful with this JB thing.
 
The best way to learn how to Jailbreak is to go to youtube and type in 'how to jailbreak' and watch the video.

What do you mean when you say "it just wont jailbreak"? Your phone doesn't reboot after jailbreak? It gets stuck in recovery mode? It starts up again after jailbreak and works normally, but you don't see Cydia/can't access the iphone file system? What?
 
Sorrry for the lack of details everyone its just annoying as ive tried about 8-10 times now.

Right, i am currently on the update thats just been released 3.1.2, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Erm, 'NightSpring' i have had that when "It starts up again after jailbreak and works normally, but you don't see Cydia" once or twice but the most common thing thats happened is i follow the instructions, i get to the end of redsnow and it says done, on the iphone there is a picture of a sort of hardware and then this changes to a fruit with legs, it get to about 80% completed with messages about 'bundles' or something like that, and stays in that position for ages, then the screen goes blank, flashes and displays the image of a usb lead...i then have to open itunes and retore and update to have access to my iphone again.
Sorry for the description but thats the best way i can explain with out the tech knowledge

There´s your problem right there... No JB for 3.1.2 at the moment... Dev Team are apparently working on it (they´ve said PT doesn´t work YET), GeoHot is about to release something in the next few days, so all is not lost, just sit tight and keep an eye on here...

When the image of the usb lead came up after the screen flashed, how long did you wait before you opened iTunes and restored again? That happened to me once, and I was just about to restore when all of a sudden the usb lead image disappeared and the phone went to the home screen with Cydia installed.

Also, are you on Mac or Windows? If you are on a Mac, you might want to look into getting Pwnage Tool and jailbreaking using that method.

Or, since 3.1.2 just got released, and there are several people/groups who are saying they will release alternate jailbreaking solutions soon, you might want to sit tight for a few more days and see what happens, as the poster above suggested.
