Why can't I make Facetime work?

Hello --

Maybe someone with more expertise than me could help me with Facetime.

Running latest OS X Yosemite and latest iOS 8.1 (UDID registered).

iMessages and SMS relay work very good. I receive a lot of messages during the day, and when I get home and turn my Macbook on, I see every message I received and replied to, and even the ones that I have deleted.

But nothing happens with regards to Facetime. I can make calls from the Mac, but when the iPhone rings and the Mac is on and in range, nothing happens. Not a single notification, although I have set Notification Center to show alerts and sounds. Life if they could not establish a link between them. iPhone Cellular calls is set to on, and no further messages appeared.

My Macbook is Handoff UNsupported. Handoff is set to off on the iPhone.

Of course, I made sure that the settings in both the Mac and iPhone were the same (otherwise, SMS relay would not work, but it does).

Any ideas of what could be wrong? Is there a setting or a preference file I need to modify?

This feature of being able to receive and male calls right up from my Mac is the one I was really looking forward to.

I don't know if your problem is related to what I had going on but I couldn't connect either video or audio FaceTime from my Mac. Both incoming and outgoing. Someone suggested to turn off the firewall but instead I added FaceTime to the list of allowed apps under advanced settings. and that solved my problem. Part of it anyway.

Give it a try and see what happens.

My firewall has always been set to off. Even after allowing Facetime in, the problem still persists.

Let's see if this is a widepread issue or something related to my Mac.

I have already submitted a report to Apple via Feedback Assistant.

Sorry that didn't work for you. Overall I find FaceTime to be quit problematic. Earlier today when I was trying to use it I could not get the incoming audio to come through the speakers of my choice, built-in rMBP speakers, headphones, and USB Bose Companion 5's. For some reason the audio was being pushed to my AppleTV via AirPlay.

No matter what I tried it still kept happening. I filed a bug report and gave up. A couple hours ago I decided to try and FaceTime with my daughter and grandkids and lo and behold everything worked right.

When done with that FaceTime call I called my wife to see if it was a one time thing. Fortunately it worked fine again. So at this point I'm holding my breath that it will continue working.

Hopefully Apple releases some updates in the coming days and weeks that will a lot of the issues I've seen.
