Last night, I tried to upload an attachment to MR (a pic of my activity monitor) but I got this message:

Safari can’t open the page “http://att.macrumors.com/newattachment.php”. The error was: “POSIX error: Invalid argument” (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:22) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

Could FileVault protection be causing this failure to upload? If not, why is this happening?

I don't think that's FileVault, although I'm sure I could be wrong.

Does that happen every time you try to upload an attachment? Did you try again today? I'm thinking it's just an internet glitch... that's one of those errors that Safari throws out when some miscellaneous communication failure occurs...

Some threads elsewhere also suggest that Safari Enhancer can be responsible for this error.

I'll try again...

...and it happened again. Quite honestly, I haven't been able to upload a pic attachment for a while now.
