I personally really, really want a tablet also. I think one of the biggest things people have for arguing against apple bringing out a tablet is their poor showing on the pc side. Of course apple would probably make it a little nicer to use and a nice design but the pc side has had a very poor showing I believe and so it really makes them seem risky.

Apple has had alot of patents on different touch screen devices lately though. Maybe they will bring out a touch screen ipod first and work out any kinks and such and then bring out a tablet. I would be so freaking happy if they did.

I hope you mean thickness because I don't want a tablet that is that small I want a 8 to 12 inch tablet myself. A pda is just too small.

Yes thickness is what I meant there is no way that they are going to make a table thicker then 1 inch and they will want it to be 8-12 inches big

I don't think Apple's going to make a tablet. Almost every corporation that uses tablets, use Windows XP. And have you seen the price of tablets? Quite expensive. ;)

The NEC Versa Litepad. 2.2 lbs, 10.2" screen, Pentium 3 M 933mhz. 20gb hd, Wireless, 3 USB 2.0 ports, VGA out, etc...

And it's only 3/4" thick... if NEC can do it, why not Apple.

The Versa litepad came out in 2002, and it's all that my dad uses except for hometheatre, he has a P4 PC.

It has a slim external CD drive, and a small keyboard. Perfect, imo.

So to all of you seeing that it hasn't been done, it has. Apple just needs to refine the design.

I just dont think they'll do it because its not what the people truly want only what they think they want.

Yes you all want one, but your a minority. It seems like alot want a tablet computer because of these forums, but that isn't true (from my observations).

Plus I think Tablet technology software wise has a way to come. I remember when they were debuted... I thought they were awesome, but they aren't selling like hot cakes.

Please dont get me wrong. I'm not trying to say you all don't have needs for them or to make it seem like your wanting one isn't logical; I think Apple just sees it as something Apple users think they want, and not truly something they do want.

I doubt Apple would do it, because really, think about it.. when Apple unveil their tablet they'd just look like copycats who took after Microsoft. No, they'd only release a tablet only if they come up with something truly revolutionary that'd make it stand out.

Well Apple and Microsoft have been stealing software ideas from eachother many times... and iMac and Mac Mini and iPod copycats are runny wild. Let alot the MP3 player was around before Apple broke in to the market so really if they released a tablet it would have Apple touch and most likely be any improvement above the rest.

To me honestly I just wish there was more a less than half inch thick Tablet PC that had a Flash drive of say 20 gbs. Strictly was Web surfer, MP3/iTunes player, and a thing to write notes and stuff. All for a good college edu price.

This is a personal want, but I think if it had a fine tuned OS X with a new App like iNote or something and was made specifically for taking notes and light surfing and MP3 playing I'd definitely look into it.

I suppose another problem with a Tablet could be that there are so many unique uses for it could Apple really provide all the ways? I know there would be 3rd party apps and all, but still...

Doesn't Apple tend to wait until a market for a product is up and going, then come in with a better design than what's already out there?

I don't think that there's a real market for tablets yet. Definately a niche market, but nothing that Apple would probably make money off of.

I mean, if Dell's not currently into tablets in a major way, then there's really no money to be made yet, right? :)

Tablets get very annoying to use with time. They're a niche product in my opinion... most people I know do not want one.

At this point I don't see apple making much money off of them. Not only are they a niche product, but a lot of tablets are used in settings that apple isn't a big presnece in

I also find that 90% of the time, students here at Bradley who bought tablets because of how "cool" they were use them in regular laptop configuration.

The other 10% of the time, they're using them as a tablet when they should be using them in a normal laptop configuration, just to look cool. I always see kids with their tablets folded, laying flat on a table or desk, and web browsing or (lol!) trying to do word processing. This gives me the feeling that tablets are just toys, except for the few professionals that actually need them. The whole turning the screen around isn't worth the extra $$$ either... I'm man enough to lift my laptop slightly ant turn it.

I'd say architechts, realtors, insurance agents... basically anybody that has to work in the field (outside) are the only people that really need tablets.
