im new to this forum, was just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem with there imac, if i need to open anything i have to highlight it then go to file then open it that way, why cant you just double click, many thanks in advance

What is your double click speed set at? What kind of iMac do you have? What kind of mouse are you using? Magic Trackpad? You have to give more info if you want help.
My first advice would be to check your double click settings in System Preferences> Mouse (or trackpad)> Double click speed. Move it higher or lower and see if it makes a difference.
