I hear so much about people wanting a copy and paste feature on the iPhone but what is it and how is it useful?? I have no idea why this feature is in such demand?

Picture this: you receive an MMS, or, rather, a text message with a code to the MMS to be viewed on the Internet. Instead of remembering this 20 character alphanumeric code, you could copy and paste the text across.

Oh, and copy-paste into and across documents, from e-mails... etc.

say you get a text with directions or something and you wanted to put it in the map app

or say you get a text and wanted to text your other friend a part of it

say you have stuff in notes to do and you wanted to google an item you had posted

just some examples

Maybe you want to quote some song lyrics in an email to a friend, and they're on a webpage that you're looking at... or send a phone number that you got in a different email... etc

I spent about 10 minutes the other night trying to get a wifi password from mail into the settings program. We need copy and paste before anything else!

Im not trying to be an a**, but is that really the reason we need copy and paste. Sure its nice to have, but I can say I'll never use it. I currently have my phone jailbroken and have copy and paste and have no need for it. I see what you all mean and yeah i can see those situations being annoying, but everyone's acting like its the end of the world and some people refer to the iphone as useless without copy and paste... I just don't get it! Help me understand because if the above reasons are why.. that's kinda sad that its in such high demand.

You obviously don't use your iPhone heavily as a communications device in any professional sense.

Many people rely on their smart phone to organize their entire life on. This often means they might have someone mail them a hotel reservation, and want to be able to copy the details into a calendar, or copy an address out of an email into the Maps application -- there is an ongoing need to be referencing and looking up information for these types of users, and that naturally leads to a desire to have copy and paste functionality.

If you're using an iPhone purely as a consumer device, for listening to music, casually surfing the web, and sending and receiving the occasional email or text message, then it's not surprising you've never encountered a need to copy and paste. That's fine, but there are other people who have more heavy duty uses for their smartphone. :)

Dont sweat it. Not in 3.0, so just a bunch more complaining.
