Why delivery day is Oct 15-17 days even for the fastest shipping method?

Hi, since there is no information on Linux compatibility, I want to give the MBP 2018 a chance. Went to Apple Canada Educational site. When I chose 1TB SSD, the delivery day jumpts to 15 Oct to 17 Oct (fastest) with two additional days for free delivery. Why it takes so long?

If I want to test it for linux compatibility, heat and fan noise, it is better to get the 512GB in store and try first? I assume the 1TB version does not affect the battery life and fan noise that much.

I have a (late) 2013 with 1TB 15-MBP. I don't notice any heat, and battery life is good, even after all these years. But I never compared it to similar models of a similar vintage.

I don't see an issue with getting a 512GB model in the store, trying it out, and then returning within the window for a more expensive model.

The reason for that delivery date is that it is a custom configuration on the this model of MBP. all of the Previous years models had a removable SSD, but starting in 2016 when they changed everything, the SSD's became like the RAM and are soldered on to the logic board.

You shouldn't see any difference in power, performance, or heat with a 512GB over a 1TB.

most likely stores will have a spec'd up model. for example I asked if they had 16gb 13-inch, they do, but the config is the i7, 1TB, 16GB model. Not sure about 15-inch but im sure there is a similar spec version
