Hey,

I live in St. John's Newfoundland. My macbook arrived in Alaska yesterday, but I checked the tracking today, and it's in Memphis. Is it normal for the package to go there? Memphis is in no way near my home, and instead of going in (roughly) a straight line, it has gone in almost a big v shape. Why is it in Memphis???

The reason is that it was imported. Same thing happened to mine. I live in Washington State, and expected it to fly from China to Alaska to Seattle. No suck luck! I called FedEx and it turns out that they have to do the customs through their own customs office, and apparently their only one is in Memphis (their headquarters). They apparently have very few customs offices because they dont do as much international shipping. I find this interesting.

This happened with my MacBook and my iPod. Didn't delay the shipping at all, it went from Alaska to Memphis to Seattle in the middle of the night. Interestingly My iPod and MacBook shippied one day and arrived the very next despite this. Its wonderful.

Yay for FedEx being awesome.

So how long did your package take to get from Memphis to Washington State? Did it come early? Or was that the estimated arrival date?

Thanks.

i'd count on the estimated arrival date 99% of the time.
UPS/FedEx both are very good at knowing when something will get to where its going...
items arriving earlier than the estimated date are rare, as are items showing up late are few too (albeit probably a bit more noticed)

Same thing happened to me when I sent my macbook in for repairs. I believe there are only two repair centers for apple notebooks, and one is in Tennessee. I wouldn't worry, they usually take good care, and return promptly.
