So I just got a new powerbook and I threw my music from my old computer (an iMac) onto an external HD and then connected it to my powerbook. I copied all the music onto here and then opened iTunes and had it find my music. It appeared everything worked fine, but for some reason some of my music must not have transfered. The music folder on my HD is 25.22GB where as the folder I copied my music to on the powerbook is only 19.43GB. Where did all this extra music go? Is there some reason my some songs wouldn't have transfered? Also iTunes found most all the songs on here; it reports 19.41GB So is there an easy way to fix this or should I try transfering all my music all over again?

sometimes i have removed some songs manually from my itunes folder, and still had them show up in itunes. However once i highlighted them in itunes a "!" icon came up to the left of the song, indicating that itunes couldnt find them. So in that case i think itunes still thinks the song is there, and accounts for its added size, but when you highlight it or try to play the song, itunes finds that it is missing. In that case i usually just delete the file listing from itunes and all is well.

One way to check would be "get info" on the Itunes lib on the old computer and compare it to your new PB.

Dont ask me why i ever would delete a song from the itunes folder instead of remove it from the program. Sometimes i am just plain illogical! :)

Also i have noticed that sometimes certain files dont want to transfer, so you may have to locate them and do it manually.

Could it be a prob with songs purchased from ITMS, and permissions?

all my music is mp3 or aac. It seems more like music was lost in the transfer from external HD to new PB than from new PB to iTunes. The folder of music I copied was about 25GB, the current folder on the PB after it finished copying is about 19GB. Where did those 6GB go?

Thats a fair amount of music.

Are complete albums missing or is it just the random song here or there?

If the external HD is still around, i would delete the files you transfered to the PB, and re-copy from the external HD. I would also repair permissions after deleting the PB files, and before copying from the external again. I have recently transferred about 20 gigs of music from my PB to my iMac as a backup using firewire target mode and had no problems. I did repair permissions before the transfer on both computers however.

I got it worked out. Seems like it's gonna be working now.

Anyone know any easy way to transfer my contacts from my old address book the the new comp?

So I got all my songs transfered. I put them into iTunes, but now most of my songs are doubled up. Is there a quick way to get all the doubles out? I replaced them when I recopied everything, but for some reason both are still able to play (no little exclamation point.) Ideas?

Okay, I thought I had everything worked out. My music was in iTunes, but then I noticed for some reason there are only 5436 songs where as my old computer has 5540. Somehow I'm missing some songs. My best idea for discovering what's missing is somehow looking at a numbered list of all the songs and going down and comparing a number and seeing where the error might be. So is there any way to get iTunes to number all of your songs? Or does anyone have any other ideas on how to figure out what's missing?
