Hands free flash light for opening doors at night, working, etc...

Yeah would be useful. I hoped the digital crown have Touch ID. But since the sport edition don't have a glass covered crown I think it will not have Touch ID included..

Neat idea, but it would be just one more set of components they'd have to cram into the unit. The engineering would not be insignificant to place an LED on the crown.

Is there an existing flexible cable component that can handle twisting/spinning? Probably not worth the effort, cost, or space in the housing.

Ok idea, but seeing as battery life seems to be a big concern right now, they probably didn't want to add anything else that would further contribute to any draining.

It will be weak, but I would think there would be a flashlight program, enough to find a keyhole. Instead of lighting up the flash like on your phone, it will just be a white watch screen at its brightest setting.

Apple took a reasonably sized form and tried to throw as much technology they could into it. This is a generation 1 product, one that requires you carry a phone which has a better flashlight on it anyway. I'd rather have Apple focus on core function, than to worry about bells and whistles at this early junction.

When Apple sells a swiss army edition they'll be all over this. How about a bottle opener, knife & a pair of tweezers?

Why would you need touchID on a watch that already detects your unique heartbeat signature?

Because it makes it look like a gadget.

Rightly or wrongly, Apple are marketing this as a piece of jewellery, not a gadget.

You don't see many Swiss watches with a built in flash light.

Yes I know the Apple watch isn't comparable, and yes I know it's more of a gadget than a Swiss watch, and no, I don't care about your expensive watch and your knowledge on mechanical watches.

Rightly, or wrongly, Apple doesn't want you thinking of this as a gadget, its a watch, a piece of jewellery.

because home kit will make sure your lights are on anyway as you approach. Hue already does this with location arriving.

That would be awkward to use. It is something I would expect from Samsung.

+1.

Not elegant at all.

Why would you want a flashlight from the crown when you could have the whole screen lit up by an app?

because you could actually use the watch wearing hand and illuminate the area you are working on, versus aiming your arm at target (losing the hand as an option to use).

Battery drain? I only imagine people would use the flashlight function for a mere minute or so a day, only when needed... not as a flashlight to read a book at night.

...idea just popped in my head so I photoshopped the pic. I agree, its a little gimmicky but I think there would be some value at times.

What, instead of an even more useful frickin' laser beam? :p

Because, as I've already explained to you, it would need electrodes to get a unique heartbeat signature.

Instead, it's most likely just checking via the pulse LEDs to see if it's been pulled away from the wrist.

You know how powerful a custom made white LED can be, compared to a dull screen?
So bright you'd temporarily blind yourself.

But yes, it would kill the battery I guess.

So now it's too bright for being flashlight? lol. I heard all kind of things now. Yeah I guess I'd turn it on just to look at it. lol.

No, I never said that.

Someone said why bother, just use the screen and I was pointing out a LED light can be MILES brighter than the screen.

The brighter the better of course :)

Did they really said this? I have missed it then. If this is true, you are right, I don't need touch id :)

Not exactly how it works. When you put the aWatch on you either pair it with iPhone or input a PIN. It is secure until you remove the aWatch from you arm and it receives no pulse. Then you must re-pair w/iPhone or re-PIN in order to use.

When you have a minute, just watch your wrist and hand. Your hand would be in the way of the light. It would be a gimmick with very little use. I work late very often, but I never needed a torch to help me open the door.

...not if your left handed.:eek::D

EDIT: Scratch that. I was thinking of the Crown facing your body. I forgot the aWatch does a software screen flip (I think) for southpaws.
