Why do AirPods (v2) report hardware version 1.0.0?

If these AirPods are "revised" and "updated", why does the iPhone Settings > General > About > AirPods report them as "Hardware Version 1.0.0"?

Because it is the version 1.0.0 of model A2031.

The first gen was version 1.0.0 of model A1523/A1722/A1602.
