i was just wondering why apple repair centres keep the macbooks while waiting for the parts to come in... i was sat watching tv and just realised what the man at the mac store said to me.

I was in the apple store on tuesday and he was like "the parts will come in on friday we will do it then and you can pick it up on the night if you so wish. I will need to keep your MB" Hmmm i just realised its going to be sitting in that store for about 3 days waiting, while im on a PC and really bored.

does anyone know why they do this?

Well its quiet good, its an exucse for me at school  "Sorry my macbooks in repair" or i could say its a good excuse but its surely annoying

I have NEVER seen someone as obsessed as you...ever.

You'd rather take the machine back home, only to return when the parts arrive, and then wait who knows how long while they repair it??? Seriously, let them do their thing and forget about it. Its a fracking computer, not a child or pet.

No I don't understand - I make backups of important information pretty frequently.

Also, you seem to now be using the important data excuse as a cover up, when your real worry is that it might be scratched

C'mon admit it...its the first step to recovery.

Meh yes im worried about scratches aswell as my data :)

step 1 complete :)

damn i hope it dont get scratched

i think i have OCD

i think you have a valid point. disregarding what was said about scratches, pets, ocd, and such, what if that mac was your only computer?

I know that when i sent in my mbp for a sound board replacement, i certainly would have liked to keep my laptop in my possession while the parts were being ordered. it would have saved me a week of stress.

in terms of productivity, it would make sense, as i didn't NEED sound in order to do my work. I could have simply used the mac as is until the part arrived. upon arrival, the tech would open it up, replace said part, and if it worked, everyone's happy. if not, obviously he'll need to take the laptop back in in order to further examine it.

just a thought.
