iPhone Why do email notifications stay in Notification Centre after the emails are read and deleted?

Finding this quite annoying, when I get email notifications they stay in the notifcation centre no matter if the emails are still there or not...! I have to manually clear the notifications as well as dealing with the actual emails.

I don't even have "Notification Centre" selected under the Notification settings for Mail...! What on Earth?

Is this the correct behaviour..?

I get the same. Sometimes even after I’ve cleared an email from notifications, read and deleted it from the mail app, it shows back up in notifications a day later. I mostly get this with spam emails. Looks like a bug that I’ve noticed since iOS 12.
