Hey all,

I just switched from an iPod Touch to an iPhone (3G). I was looking through my apps and in the middle of my second home page, there's a "Contacts" icon which I don't think is originally on the iPhone, but is probably some kind of holdover from my Touch. I really don't need this (it's not hard to click "Phone" then "Contacts" :p) - how do I delete it?

It's one of the Apple apps so was on your iPhone when new, and can't be deleted.

It wasn't on the original 1.x iPhone firmware but was added in 2.0.

Bizarre - so why does this icon appear on the second page of apps?

It's possible that you moved it to the second page? You can move it back to the first page if you want by holding down on an icon until it jiggles and then move the Contacts app to the first page.

Possible but I doubt it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't there when the iPhone was fresh, because my first home page looks like it did when I first got it (14 icons, the last two are iTunes and App Store on the bottom row). So I don't know quite how Contacts got there or where it belongs.

I can assure you, your iPhone did have the Contacts app when you got it.

I've modified my home page (I have Contacts there - I don't want to have to go into Phone to view contacts) and added some apps, so I can't be absolutely sure what was on the first page, but on resetting my home page, Contacts is on the second page. So I guess that's what the default is.

But like I said, it's an Apple app and can't be deleted.

Weird. Maybe I was wrong. Thanks :D

The DEFAULT location for the Contacts app on the iPhone is the second page. I think Apple did this to show that you can have more than one page. If they put EVERYTHING on the first page, some users might get the iPhone and wonder why they can't scroll through pages like everyone else. I think it's just to show off this feature. Look at the picture on the iPhone 3G box. You won't see a Contacts app, but you'll see 2 dots at the bottom of the homepage.
