At the moment I use the following Apple products on a daily basis: iMac, MBP, iPad2 and iPhone 4. I use the same email accounts on all these devices, and Im getting really fed up with having to open the mail client on each one of them and mark my emails as read. Ideally both the lock screen notification as well as the badge in my mail app should be cleared once I read the email on 1 of my devices. Instead I have to open the mail app, select the email thread and click on the new email for it to clear. Am I doing something wrong/missing a setting, or is this really the way it is?

How do you have your email set up? If it's POP, then that is the likely cause.
POP is the devil.

Seems like the majority of the people out where I live have an @cox.net email account, which comes free with their cable modem service.

Cox only allows POP access to check emails, which means nothing stays in sync (read/unread marks, deleted emails, etc) when the email is read from various devices.

For example, my Gmail is set up as Exchange on my iPhone & iPad and as IMAP on my mac. If I read an email on any device the other two nearly immediately see it as read.

my primary email is my mobileme that i moved to icloud and my secondary is a gmail. Looking into setting it up as exchange now. Should I delete my old gmail account configuration on my iOS devices before adding this one?

Doesn't really matter.

Ok, I deleted my old gmail account on my phone and added it as an exchange instead. Now I'm getting my gmail pushed! Weeee :)

the badge on my phone now disappears if I check my gmail on my imac, but the mobileme address still keeps the badge...how do I fix that?

also, is there a way that I can get my gmail pushed to my desktop and laptop as well, or does that only work for mobile devices?

If they're set up as IMAP then they should work as "push" - the mail application (or Outlook) needs to be running of course.

As to MobileMe, I don't know - never used that for email.
