iPad Pro why do I need a weird setup to charge my ipad?

ipad pro 12.9'' 3rd gen.

-61W macbook charger + macbook usb-c cable = charges my macbook and my wireless earbuds but doesn't charge my ipad
-20W apple charger I bought (came with an usb-c to lightening cable) charges my iphone, but the same 20w charger + macbook usb-c cable doesn't charge my ipad (but charges my wireless earbuds)
-Just the macbook usb-c cable plugged into my macbook....my macbook detects my ipad in finder and everything looks great, except it doesn't charge my ipad
-only way I'm able to charge my ipad is using an 10w ipad mini charger + my macbook usb-c cable + a usb-a to usb-c adapter from an portable external

When you take your Magic Keyboard to the Apple Store per your other post, take in the cable and charger to show them it doesn’t charge with the 20w charger. Maybe they’ll swap them out for you.
