Why do my Movies look better on the PS3 than the ATV3?

They are .m4v files. The typical ones that Handbrake produces under the Apple TV2 Preset. I can load the ones under 4.5 gigs onto the PS3 hard drive. The same exact file that I play on the PS3 looks better than when I play it on the ATV3. Don't get me wrong. They look good on the ATV3. I just think they look a lot better on the PS3.

I doubt its streaming because there should be no compression introduced using the Apple TV 2 preset.
I suggest swapping the inputs on your TV to see if there is a preset stored for that particular input. Also, if you have a "PC" input the color maybe different from the standard inputs.

I'm not saying the quality is bad when played on the ATV3. I'm just saying it looks a lot better on the PS3 and I don't know why the same file plays better on one device than the other.
you say motion, it gets all wavy when there's fast motion?
what's the frame rate on the movies?

you should be able to check the signal coming into your TV somehow, on my 2 LGs the enter button on the remote will pop up a window that tells you what the input signal is.
check it when playing from the ps3 and again from the aTV, guessing the ps3 might be doing 24.
and wifi or wired would have nothing to do with it, the file is being transfered not transcoded, if anything it will stop and start, quality won't be affected.

What was the original source for your files before you converted it with Handbrake?

I have been using XMedia Recode makings sure I just copy the video and changing the audio to comply with iTunes requirements. Firstly it keeps the same original source and secondly it does it in 2-3 minutes with a 4.4GB file. I am not having luck with AC3 5.1 sound at the moment but it is more likely to do with my method or setup.

Depending on your TV's features, the picture settings could be different for the inputs of the AppleTV and the PS3. Check to make sure they are both the same.
This. Also keep in mind the ps3 costs 3 times what the ATV does. Part of that cost is the blu-ray drive and hard drive, but also the video processor I would guess.
I don't have MAC so I can not answer it for you. The other option is to make MKV from DVD (Very easy) then convert it to MP4 without transcode!
I'm pretty sure this is the reason.
The PS3 does have several options that you can set for deblocking, denoising, etc...
