I just don't understand the rational of people not backing up their iPhone or iPad. Well their iOS devices. Why? Cost of space is not an issue with the cloud. 12 bucks a year. How much do people spend on buying junk food or silly starbucks drinks a year. 50GB for 12 bucks a year. I keep seeing post after post online about people breaking their phones, losing it and no backup done. Why? Are you guys that cheap or just clueless?

It could very well be that many people don't see immediate satisfaction from a backup. Junk food and Starbucks drinks provide immediate satisfaction, but a backup done today will not provide such a feeling due to lack of foresight. I believe more people would perform a backup if they changed their attitude toward backups - from it being a chore to it being an investment.
There is nothing on my phone I cannot afford to lose. Contacts, music, calendar, email is all in the cloud (not iCloud, mainly Google services).
I do backup, but anything important is removed from my phone right away and tranferred somewhere else.
I don't use my iPhone as a long-term storage device.
Some people just aren't bright honestly.. thats all.
The same reason people do not buy life insurance policies, they think "it won't happen to me" or just do not think about it at all.
I'm ridiculous about these things. For example I have photos on my backup drive, my passport, google photos, amazon photos and dropbox.

I am aperson with anostalgic feel that somethings lost, and will no longer be brought back, so I will backup Contacts, music, calendar, email, pictures and so on on my iPhone
Not enough space on iCloud. I won't pay for more considering the competitors offer a lot more space for free..
Which leaves regular backups on my computer. Which I don't want to do since I never want iTunes installed on it again.
Also, restoring a phone from backup leads to a few problems, compared to setting up as new.
To be honest, my important files and photos are saved to the cloud (currently using OneDrive with auto-upload) and my important information (like contacts, calendars, emails, etc) are tied to one account or another, easily recoverable just by logging in.
I just don't see that much use for a traditional backup anymore.

Funny, I never had any problems after restoring my phone or my ipad from a backup and have done quite a few.
