Hi,

I've been trying to get hold of two particular apps and have noticed that they are not appearing in the New Zealand Apps Store. They are:

Dragon Search
IMDb

The first, I can kind of understand as it's only been released a day or two ago (17th Dec 2009), however IMDb was released over two weeks ago!

I was under the impression that the Apps Store was supposed to be a 'Global' thing and if so, how come we're not seeing these Apps appear here? Surely it's just a simple act of replicating a Database and it's content from one Apple server to another. Can anybody who has access to the Australian Apps store maybe confirm if the two apps are appearing over there?

Does anybody know what would cause this damned frustrating thing to happen?

Regards

Developers choose which country to sell their applications in.
If they choose not to sell it in NZ, it won't appear in the NZ store.

Some countries have some horrible tax forms to fill out before Apple will let the developers sell their apps. I'd imagine that these can be off-putting to some developers.

Developes may also feel like they can't support their application in other countries, or its not lucrative enough to sell in those countries (Apple only pays out the profits for a region once you've made $150 in each country).

edit: Dragon Search is only available in the US store.

Same here with Australia, I was wanting the dragon dictation app (despite the fact that I've read it's not compatible with the iTouch's mic). Also, I just check, and IMdb isn't in Aust. yet either.

My advice? Well aslong as the apps are free, sign up for an american app store account, I did it about a year ago through a loophole (I wanted to download a couple of free lost promo videos at the time)- you can sign up without having to give credit card details, or a voucher to redeem, by clicking something that indicates you're signing up for the apps only... it was a year ago and I dont know if the loophole is still there.
