I have seen over and over again online people saying that variable refresh rate displays refresh at 48hz for 24fps content, even when we’re talking about displays that can go down to 24hz or lower. Why not just refresh at 24hz to perfectly match the content onscreen?

Is 48hz really used when displaying 24fps content? If so, why? Thanks

The hardware has its own limitations of how slow it can go.

If it’s too slow then it doubles the target and shows each frame twice.

My 144hz monitor for gaming has a VRR range of 48-144hz. Below the 48hz it will double and duplicate frames.

You can simply understand such as how the screen works. For example, it is impossible to achieve smooth scrolling with 60Hz screen but possible through 120Hz, because of the hardware Limitations.
