why does installer stink so much on 2.0?

i loved installer and all the apps that were on there in the older versions. i like the look of the new installer, but there are only like 4 things on it!
cydia gets the job done for the most part, but i'm really only using two apps on there (winterboard which sucks compared to summerboard) and mobile scrobbler.

it would also be nice if there was an app to change vibrate patterns. i need to go back and find the pattern to SSH over again, but it'd be so much nicer if you could just download something that would change the vibrate patterns instead.

Installer on 2.0 is a whole new app. It is terrible. I dont even have it on my phone anymore.

What dont you like about winterboard? It has everything summerboard had, plus way more. It is also more stable, faster and gets updated more often.

a lot of words for no real difference. if anything, it's harder to make a theme because you have so many different subfolders to send over SSH.

Installer has always been terrible from day one. The only fact it became a de facto standard was that it was the first and, then, only solution for maintaining the burgeoning influx of apps. It was a lot easier to download from repositories than go to each project's google code page, or website (or catch the updates in IRC).

But it's proprietary, and has no real sophisticated package management, has an installation/uninstallation routine that's a joke, and was always a second class citizen. Much like SummerBoard. Cydia and WinterBoard are light years beyond Installer and SummerBoard.

what does it have that's 'way more'?

Off the top of my head: A clearly defined method of creating themes. An abstracted modification framework. Backward compatiblity for the "legacy" SummerBoard scheme. More themeable elements. Stacked themes. Open source.

And most importantly, a developer that actually cares and actively maintains it.

Actually in the new update you dont have to do it. LoL all you do is create the theme you want in your native HD.

Ie:

TuanS Theme > Put in the correct folders here.

Tuans Theme>
-Wallpaper.PNG
-Dock.PNG
-Wallpaper2.PNG
DIR: ICONS>
-All Icons listed here.

Upload VIA SSH to Root > Applications > Themes.XXXXXxxx > Upload your local Theme here.

Go back to Iphone access winterboard, select theme reload .. and VIOLA! your done you didnt even have to access the internal iphone files itself.

well I just installed my cydia through quickpwn a few days ago and have not added any other repositories but just searchi g for the word scrobbler brings up the app.

So it is there.

As for the op:

I recall using installer on my ipt and I have to say cydia seems so much more... Cohesive is I guess the word i want. It all seems to work better. There is a ton of info on all the apps whereas half the time installer simply had a more to screen that brought me to a generic "donate now" section. Seems that cydia is the way to go if you want to install safer and tested apps but I dunno, I am new to the jb scene.
