Anyone know how best to manage iTunes files?

Problem: I have deleted GBs of data from my itunes library only to find it still in place. And yes I chose to remove it as well and not just delete it from the iTunes library file.

Also I have multiple copies of iPhone ipad apps. When it updates I have old copies.

What's going on with iTunes? Anyone have any idea?

Doing it manually is just ridiculous.

I've not had any of those problems, so I suspect that it is something that is specific to your installation. You may have a corrupted iTunes database, or perhaps I'm not understanding your problem. Is it possible that when you added those files to iTunes that you had enabled the copy into iTunes option (thus leaving you with two copies of the media, one in the iTunes library and another in the location where the files were originally stored)?

No, the doubles were older versions of the same app. When upgrading apps both new and old versions were left in the same folder taking up extra space.

The TV episodes were simply removed from the iTunes library but left in the media folder.

I also don't have the app problem with iTunes. When I upgrade an app, iTunes puts the old copy in the system trash for deletion when the trash is emptied.

When iTunes goes wrong - it goes very wrong. Bummer.

Do you have iTunes automatically organise your library? If not that may be your problem

iTunes App updates...

I too had the same problem, iTunes keeps showing App updates available but when I click "update all" nothing happens.
However, I found in my "Mobile Applications" folder lots of Apps with more than one version (some two, some three) I manually went through them all in "Finder" and deleted the old versions.
Then in iTunes I selected all Apps and removed them all (but kept files) I then went to "File" then "Add to Library" and selected the "Mobile Applications" folder.
This then reported some Apps with newer version, I must of missed some.
So I wrote down all the Apps reported and went through the "Mobile Applications" folder again, removing the ones on my list.
I repeated the "selected all Apps and removed them all" process and "File" then "Add to Library" and selected the "Mobile Applications" process to make sure I had got them all.
All this with the hopes it would sort out my Apps updating problem, but it didn't. But it did get rid of all my old App versions.
