Why does my iMac randomly ask me if i wanted to stay connected

to the internet? this must be stopable. how do i stop the imac from asking me this question?

I'm guessing that you're connecting with a dialup or other PPP connection.

Go to System Preferences->Network and choose your method of connecting. You should select the PPP tab and see a button for Options...

You'll see the following choices that are in the screenshot.

I'm dialing through my Sprint 3g data phone. When I'm in the appropriate area, 1.1 Mbps download speed doesn't seem bad at all.
