This has been driving me nuts since the day the 3G iPhone came out. Every so often, the phone dumps the 3G connection and switches to EDGE. It does it on my phone, my wife's phone, my friend's phone etc. It's NOT my location, as it's done this in New York, Rochester, MN, Seattle, WA, Santa Barbara, CA to name a few places I've been with the phone.

What IS the deal? If I leave the phone alone, it will eventually re-connect to the 3G network, or if I switch 3G off and then on in the settings menu, it will connect straight away to 3G again. It's just so sporadic, and it's driving me crazy...

Same thing in the UK

I have the same edge/3g signal changing at random here in the UK. I have had 2 iphone 3g's side by side, one had full signal bars showing 3g, the other had poor signal and was edge connected, then after a while the 3g connection just dropped out and was replaced by no network message, weird. I wonder whether the 3g transmitter/receiver inside the iphone is weak or underpowered compared to samsung or nokia phones which in my experience don't suffer this drop out issue.

Yeah who knows... I forgot about that actually. Mu brother and dad in London use 3G iPhones on 02, and both have the same issue, too. I wonder why it's not blown up more on the boards?
