I'm loving Big Sur and many of the call-backs to previous versions of macOS; but if there's one thing that's tainting it for me, it's the intensity of the white throughout the user interface. It makes it so difficult to discern active/inactive windows, and it's so needlessly bright. It's as if Apple forgot why they carried the grey/silver elements for so long - it just worked after all.

There are various other accessibility features for the display, but unless I'm missing something, there is no way to reduce the white point like in iOS. Have there been any third-party developments in this area?

Dark Mode really shouldn't have to be the only alternative. Light Mode is great apart from the amount of white!

Thoughts?

On macOS you can just calibrate your display and save it as a display profile.

Sorry I should have said, I need the display calibrated normally as I work in graphic design. I'm talking about reducing the amount of white in the user interface, such as the title/side bars.

The interface colours themselves are not customisable. “Reduce white point” in iOS is not different, it is just a display calibration; once enabled, it affects everything, not just the UI.
