I just quit FF because it was using a whopping 700Mb or real memory and when I reopened it it would not show up in the activity monitor.

I'm typing this into FF but it's still not showing up. Also is that 700Mb all cache or what? Is it normal for FF to take up so much space.

EDIT. sorry it is showing up but I missed it because there was no icon. However I'm still puzzled by this 700Mb of memory business.

If you'd had Firefox open for a long time, have quite a large amount of RAM installed and hadn't been using the machine for many other uses then I suppose 700MB of real memory would be achievable, albeit not normal. Keep an eye on it.

Apps in OSX don't necessarily use all the memory that is allocated to them.
