what makes iTunes Genius function recognize songs? I have some spanish ballads (mainstream stuff) that Genius just does not recognize... I do update Genius every time, but still it does not help the problem..

Does it do so my collecting codes or other tags of the song info?

Is there anyway I could upgrade my songs Genius does not recognize with codes or anything else so the Genius function could be applied to them too??

Thanks!

if they're not in the iTunes store i believe Genius can't find them then. so thats probably the reason.

I have this problem for a lot of my music too.
And it's even on songs that I know are available on the iTunes store.

If anybody could help us out that I would be greatly appreciated. ^.^

I haven't played with it in great detail, but I'm guessing that it has something to do with differences between your metadata and their metadata for the song. I know my Genius is picking up songs that I ripped, and I know it's sometimes doing it when I've changed the metadata. I just tried it...

- It included a song where it had two artists listed in the Artist field, and I made it just one artist there and the other one in parenthesis in the title -- "(feat. The Used)", and it included this song. I was able to get it to do this both for songs purchased from iTunes and songs ripped from CDs.

- It included a song where I changed the artist completely -- random example, but I had an iTunes purchased song by t.A.T.u and I changed it so that it had their name in Russian / Cyrillic followed by their name in English / Roman -- again this worked fine. I don't think I was able to contrive a situation where this was done for a ripped song, though.

But I'm thinking there's some kind of matching-to-known song going on, and the farther your song varies from theirs (in terms of ... I don't know what, but presumably name, artist, album art, length, etc), the less likely it's being identified and tagged to the matching song in iTunes.

I converted some of my songs to an older ID3 tag version (Menu > Advanced) and now they work fine. This did work for all songs though.

It would be nice if there was an option in iTunes that allowed you to sort out your "non-Genuis" songs. That way, I could figure out if it's an meta-tag issue or not.
