Is there a reason that the iPod doesn't include voicememos.app? I can't find a reason for it, especially since there's a built in microphone.

Any idea?

Thanks. ^_^

The iPad is "missing" lots of apps. Namely Stocks, Clock, Calculator, Compass, and Weather. My theory, like I've stated in other threads, is that there will eventually be a dashboard interface for widgets that will allow limited multitasking of lightweight apps. I also tend to believe that devs will be able to write these small apps and distribute them through a widget section of the App Store. I believe this is a good place to put an app like Pandora and other notification services, like Facebook, and maybe even AIM. Though I doubt it will start with such extensive support.

And yes, the iPad does have a digital compass (magnetometer) and microphone.

Though it could simply be that Apple will offer these apps as a free download like the iBooks app so that if people want to delete them off their iPad they can. As long as the Voice Memos can still run in the background though, I don't really care. I'm also hoping the iPad's microphone is more sensitive than the iPhone. When I record lectures, it can be difficult to hear what the professor is saying unless I record from the front of the class.

I have heard the dashboard theory before and that was pretty much the first thing I thought when I noticed those widget sort of apps were missing, but for some reason I never made the connection between a dashboard and lightweight background tasks/multitasking. That actually makes a lot of sense.

Jobs mentioned something about all the standard apps being re-written for the ipad. I'll guess they weren't all finished on reveal day, but will be on the ipad when it is for sale.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. It makes TOO much sense, so Apple could never implement something like that! But I'll still hope.
