Other Why doesn't the iphone have "Hyper Smooth" video stabilization?

For anyone who knows how these type of things work, is there a good reason the iphone doesn't have the same level of video stabilization as the hero 7 black or osmo action?

Since the newest iphones are already water proof, seems like having that level of stabilization would put a huge dent in sales for the latest action cams.

While many would no doubt put this as a ‘nice to have’ I imagine the number of potential iPhone buyers for whom this is a dealbreaker requirement is vanishingly small in comparison to the overall customer base.

I feel like it would be one of those touch screen gestures functionality that people didn’t know they wanted. Especially for vloggers and content creators or potential content creators this would add a lot of value. Seems like it would be a very “appley” type feature along with portrait mode.

I’d say it’s just a matter of time. iPhones are already superior in video recording compared to other smartphones. GoPro is a specialized hardware so they can prioritize features like hypersmooth. Apple is making a phone, so I’m sure there are other priorities in the pipeline, like iOS 13.

With all the focus on content creation in their advertising it just seems like a function that would make the iPhone an even better tool for creating content.

I wonder what the limitations are, like can’t an app developer build an app with a similar level of stabilization?

Go pro has a bigger camera housing, so the mechanical stabiliser is bigger to begin with and can compensate for higher level of movement correction. It’s not strictly a software restriction.

Also a feature like that might not make too much sense on a smartphone compared to the effort a company needs to go through to actually develop that feature within their apps. I mean nobody’s really attaching their phones on top of their head and riding a mountain bike.

Specialist devices will always perform better in specific scenarios than a generic Swiss knife type device, which is what smartphones are.

The stabilization on a GoPro is purely electronic. It’s not optical at all. In fact the iPhone does have optical image stabilization. Imo it would make as much sense as portrait mode.

Again the main focus of Apples iPhone commercials are showing how the iPhone can capture content in a very cinematic way. Not needing a gimbal to produce that type of content would align with how they’re marketing the iPhone imo

I’ve read that the reason the stabilization is better on the GoPro 7 compared to the 6 is because it has more ram. Well the iPhone X has more ram.

I think it’s possible and a very useful option to have. Definitely a more useful function than Animoji.

The stabilization on a GoPro is purely electronic. It’s not optical at all.

Apologies, I always thought the go pro had an optical stabiliser. I do own a hero 7 black and have to agree that the hyper smooth feature is awesome.
