Any idea why the the new MBAir doesn't have the new glass trackpads that the MacBook and MacBook Pro have? I found this odd.

I had the same thought. I wish they did.
Glass is HEAVIER, every ounce counts. The AIR actually GAINED weight in its recent Rev B. They hit 3.0 pounds and I think they realized if they hit OVER 3.0 pounds they will be criticized on that. Just a thought.

do we really care? the glass trackpad isnt that big of an improvement over the current pad. i definitely wouldnt trade the current one for the increase in weight.

It doesn't add that much more weight, probably not enough to even notice. It's really that the technology just cannot be crammed into that little space.

For what it's worth, the MBA is rather heavy for a sub-notebook. Most of the excess weight comes from the Aluminium housing - dead weight.

That same aluminum housing make the air feel sturdy as hell. :) I'll take the weight of the aluminum anytime,

they just dont have enough time to add the glasspad manufacturing, and they don't to risk another bug that will happen with the new air since the first rev AIR is enough already for having a heat issue.

they haven't shipped the SATA version of the new air even without the glasspad. they just don't have much time.

I think they were afraid to give the air the same theme as the rest of the line.

(As an MBA owner) I still largely view the air as a vanity product, and I think there would have been a rebellion if it "looked old" after one generation. I think it is no mistake that the old and new are externally identical.

Now I just want them to admit to their BS, and get the trackpad updated for the new gestures. Now that people are already doing it, it is time to come clean, say sorry (or not), and put out the update.

I really wish they had added the new headphone jack that works with the iphone clicker. The new glass trackpad looks nice but I am not too into it.

I am more concerned as to when we will see the glassbookAir. All they have to do is replace from the hinge up in January.

I belive Gotzero got it right. No apple product as far as i know has changes its looks after just one year. People expect to be "current" for longer than that when they pay the apple premium.

Even small cosmetic changes affect resell price. And noone wants to have the "old" design if the desing it self does not have drawbacks... glossy screen anyone;P?

So the problem here is not money, time or weight. V3 will imho feature the same trackpad and black super glossy screen for the same reasons the Imac macbook and macbook pro has it now. Unity in the product line.

Next to be redesigned is the mac pro. MBA same time next year:/
