Am I missing something? He's one of the founders? Steve was CEO, so why can't he be involved with Apple? A few weeks back there was an article on him because he was at a Google event? I also read that he and Jobs and a huge blowout? Anyone care to clear this up? Thanks

Why doesn't Woz have anything to do with Apple?

He is one of the founders, but no longer has anything critical to do with the company. He could, if he wanted to, take some role. It would be very very minimal though as at this point he is a low man of the totem pole.
It's the way of business. Just because you were there at the beginning, doesn't mean you mean much in the end. He'll always be the core of that company in the sense that he built it with his bare hands, literally. Unfortunately though, times changed and so did positions.
Just look at how much Jobs' position changed over the years. He got kicked out for Christs sake lol

Yeah I know Steve was kicked out, but he came back. Wouldn't make sense if Woz was involved with Cook?
Why should he be? When he left Apple the main reason was that Apple had gotten too big and too business-y for his tastes.

What experience does Woz have to be a CEO? He was always happy being an engineer.
Woz has been out of the engineering field for years. He's been living off Apple residuals and the occasional speaking fee. He's out of touch with the industry other than to collect gadgets and loaf around being a geek. He's not driven to excel like Steve was, and he doesn't care if he's filthy rich as long as he can afford gadgets and not have to work. Sounds like a good life! Steve, on the other hand, really never left the industry. When he got kicked out of Apple, he went on to other ventures, until he was lured back in the early 2000's. He's always been driven to success and is a strong compassionate leader.

Technically, he is a part of Apple. He collects a paycheck (stipend) and lives off the stock. Imagine getting paid to work for a company, but not actually have to do any work? That's Woz.

I see him as a reverse Santa Clause. He rides around on a segway instead of a sleigh and grabs all the gadgets he can on their release days.

When Steve was kicked out he went to form Next, which became the foundation for Mac OSX when Apple bought it. So in a sense, he never really left "Apple", at least not the idea of it.
Why would he want to work? He has enough money to last him and his extended family the rest of his life and then some...
Woz was the brains behind the apple I and II, he himself admitted that he had little desire to sell the computer but it was Jobs that had the vision to start selling a whole computer to people instead of a logic board that woz designed.

Sounds like Woz's dreams were more attuned to his personal gadget interests:

Yup, he's had interviews where he has made it clear he likes being on the outside and seeing what the come up with when it's done. He doesn't using his position to get things early, because he likes the experience of it.
I think he still has an office and get paid from them, but it's nothing major.

To be fair, he does want to work...but spending most of his energy and time on smaller project from smaller companies. It's a preference thing, but he is still on Apple's payroll and clearly is a fan.
