Why don't apps respond to silent switch?

I have several apps, and not a single one of them will cut volume with the silent switch. I have to actually lower the volume, even though the phone is on vibrate.

Is there a setting for this somewhere i'm missing, or is this how they work?

Would that be bad programming? Man that sucks - how will I game while in the bathroom at work????

It depends how the app is programmed, one or two for me respond to the silent switch, otherwise I just turn the volume down. No biggy.

TapTapRevenge doesnt respond to it. I found this out on the Subway. When it was quiet.
