My first love was Microsoft Windows 98. OMG! , a machine that can play games, let me watch videos and music and also let me browse the internet - it all seemed unbelievable at that time. Falling in love with Fifa 99, Half life , Carmageddon 2 , this assembled pc was a delight. Everyday, me and my friends would get a new CD from the movie rental shop and watch a new movie. Golden were the childhood days!. Now i have upped it to Windows 7 and better specs, but the enthusiasm is not there anymore as an adult. Yeah i still love technology, but will i ever "fall in love" again?

My second love was an android phone. Specs were too low compared to today's heavyweights. However, a machine which lets me use my fingers to swipe and slide to interact with it. Nothing short of magic. Has an app for every purpose imaginable i.e. using it as a wireless mouse/keyboard for pc, remotely controlling my desktop, etc.

My latest love is the ipad mini. Am able to compose a whole song using Garageband, able to read whatever magazines/books i throw at it and it is so lightweight , it is built for gaming. Not to mention the impressive battery backup.

I love all 3 OS' equally and want them all to succeed in their own ways. People bickering about trivial stuff which doesnt really matter in real world usage makes no sense. Here's to the future - IOS7, Win 8.1, Android Key Lime Pie :) ;)

I'm lucky enough to be able to tinker with linux, Windows 8, windows phone 8, Android and iOS on a daily basis.

I do honestly believe that no matter what your needs are, there's something for everyone on almost every budget and because you prefer platform x or phone y, it doesn't mean someone picking platform z and loving it is wrong.

We're lucky the days of Symbian and Windows Mobile of old are behind us (although I do fondly remember them!) :)

wow this is so refreshing!!

You are totally right, why can we just embrace the best of American & foreign technologies have to offer? Instead of arguing like fools LOL

I have, which I love my HP laptop with Windows 8, my Iphone 4, my Ipad, ipod, Galaxy S3, and my beautiful Galaxy Note 2! :)

My first love was the Commodore 64. It costed $5 an hour to use the chat room on Q-Link, and I ran up an $80 phone bill and my parents threw away the 1200 baud modem I saved up months of allowance for.

BASIC
BBSes
Telnet
ASCII pr0n
MUDs

Good times.

Its really hard to fall in love with Android phones in the country I reside, in which today's heavyweights (as OP stated) cost as twice as they are offered in first world countries. The nearest Android thing I could get are those of China phones which are really rubbish.

But that doesn't stop me from looking for another love :)P), I have already set my eyes on Nexus 4's successor even if it'll twice or more.

Are you one of those Big Love kind of guys? 'Cause I'll have you know that universal love isn't the American Way!

The American Way is where you have to pick only one, and bully all the others. Or maybe you've been smoking some geek stuff? Peace, Man?

I'm always having fun reading those "fight threads" where people explain with great passion why other choices suck when they are not the same as they chose. It's even more fantastic to read when it's about technology.

As a dev, I'm working with OS X, Windows (7 & 8) and Linux on desktops. All three of them have their pros and cons and areas where they excel at. On mobile, I mainly work with WP 8 and iOS. Same thing: both of them have their cool factors and shortcomings.

I always try to see which system will fit my purpose the best. It's the same as chosing the programming language for a given task. And I guess that is what all real tech pros/lovers/geeks do.

Refusing to use a system for 'religious' reasons or preaching unconditional love for a corporation because their marketing is 'cool' is just plain silly and proves one doesn't know **** about technology.

I'm with you here.

I have a Windows desktop for gaming, a Macbook for school, an iPhone for music and texting and other day-to-day stuff (although with google voice I can text people from my laptop and tablet :D ), and an Android tablet for viewing videos, leisurely browsing the internet and reading.

Every OS has it's strengths and weaknesses, and it's really what you take from it. I use my iPhone for music, texting, calling, and other things (for Maps, to count calories, to check my email, to take pictures, etc) because it's reliable, while I consume media on my bigger Android tablet, which doesn't need to be reliable (and boy is it unreliable at times) because I use it at home, where I have alternatives if the tablet starts acting fussy. My Windows desktop is for gaming (that's the reason I bought it) and for mining Bitcoins when I feel anti-government, because Windows is widely supported, while my MacBook is for school-related stuff (and programming when I feel like trying [and failing] to learn to code) because I love OS X and laptops are convenient.

So why all the hate when there's so much to love.

Three reasons for all these arguments:

1) People get so defensive about something. It's like you can't say that you think anything sucks without an army of loyalists jumping down your throat.

2) There is enough posts with just plain ol' WRONG information. And some stick by it regardless if proven wrong.

3) Obvious trolls that feed off the first two reasons.

I like using all of the above. OTOH it eventually comes with the ability to see both the positives and negatives of everything you own, which I can say is a lot less fun than just going and say, having an iPhone and calling samsung "scamsung" or having a samsung and calling apple crapple.

Because of that, I also find myself a little bit easier to get into self doubt mode. XD If I see both the positives and negatives, and people keep on magnifying the negatives, I weigh them a bit heavier. Which sucks.

People here do a fantastic job at seeing a lot about what products say about their owners. It's kinda freaky. My very favorite is when people bold/capitalize the pro in MacBook Pro and Mac Pro. For example, "The Mac PRO is for PROS and they need thunderbolt!" or some such.. hilarious.

Glad to see so many having the same "love" for technology as me. Competition is good as it enables each other to better their game. I dont have any one hero. Steve jobs, Bill Gates and Larry Page/Schmidt all are my heroes cuz they have offered me happiness in different ways with their vision.

The only thing which i dislike nowadays is Facebook where there has been a "falling out" after initial infatuation. It has become a cluttered mess and doesnt do anything for me socially or emotionally.

I don't feel a need to be put in a box either

I love windows 7,i honestly think it's the easiest desktop OS to USE, easier than OSX. I just prefer OSX overall because once you learn it, it's the best.

I love Android. It's simple to use, yet loaded with features. If you don't like the way something works then simply change it. It's truly the most advanced mobile operating system for a phone and the best overall user experience

I love ios on tablets and for games. While it's extremely limiting in capabilities, for a tablet it works great, for a portable gaming machine is great, and I think it's only getting better with iOS 7

I'm falling for Windows phone 8 but i have to play with it more before I make a final decision. I like the performance but the closed system is a real negative.

Web os was great software but lousy hardware.

I love technology

Same here.

Windows PC
Android Phone
iOS Tablet

This guy, I like the way he thinks.

Except I went one further: MacBook Pro, PC, iOS tablet, Android tablet and Android phone. I also have an iPhone, but I don't really use it much anymore. Testing iOS 7 on it at the moment.

I like to say that I am an equal opportunity techie. I like trying new things, whether it be new hardware or an OS. I don't care if iOS is copying someone, or if Android is "stealing" ideas. Who cares? No sense is getting all worked up over something you can't control.

I love iOS but I think that other mobile OS have a lot to offer too. Sadly a lot of people want to have "the best" and forget that it's such a personal decision. Two people who want the same thing in a phone could be put side by side and pick different things.

The media doesn't help either - the "smartphone war" articles get a lot of hits so they just keep churning them out. It's the nature of anything we buy, people want validation that they're right and having people choose otherwise brings out the defensiveness.

Personally I think that Android, windows, blackberry and iOS are all great. Competition keeps the market fresh and striving for better. The doomsayers wouldn't like it much if the market was reduced, as much as they love to predict the downfall of one company or another.

nice thread...
well, i use a windows pc, an android tablet and the iphone. and i have to say all 3 of 'em have their own strengths and weaknesses, their own distinguishing features and that's what makes these 3 os' great in their own way.
