Why has PPTP VPN gone?

VPN via PPTP has disappeared in both Sierra and iOS10. What has it done to offend Apple so much that it must be banished from our lives?

The first sentence from Wikipedia says it all: "The Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) is an obsolete method for implementing virtual private networks, with many known security issues."

just apple trying to dictate everyone else' IT policies, nothing much really.

If you cannot rely on the security of the network connection, then why even bother. There are ample native and third-party alternatives. Apple needed to do this eventually, there is no point in supporting substandard technology forever.
