So, I was thinking and thinking if I should go with applecare+ or not for my new mbp 14”.

Here in Sweden I do have home insurance that cover accidental damage. I only pay 90 euro every time I need to use it.
I pay a fee of 30 euro a month for it and it cover everything in my home.

Anyway I did take a look at it even closer and if I need to use it first need to send my mbp to there controller to get it approved then they will send it to AASP or apple store.
That will take some serious time.
I’m depending on my mbp for work.

So that’s why I did go with the applecare+ and also it has the warranty extension of 3 years.

As I did pay 3000 euro for it and the applecare+ was 300 euro it seems ok as I’ll have it for at least 3 years.

AppleCare has always been a money drain for me. The few times I needed AppleCare, it was past the “warranty” period and Apple did nothing to repair it, despite having AppleCare. And this was even for widespread issues, that the Apple genius admitted himself as he have seen alot of people with the same problems.

In the end, if AppleCare didn’t make Apple alot of money, they wouldn’t be selling it.

So no more AppleCare for me.

AppleCare and AppleCare+ Is different products.
I have the agreement and in my country apple must follow it.

I’ll have my mbp for three years and because of everything that happens in the world right now I don’t know if I can afford if it breaks.
Then applecare+ is a good thing to make me feel safe

My thinking with warranties has always been this: If I can easily afford to replace it, I don't bother. Some places here in the U.S. will try to sell you a warranty on a $20 USD toaster, for example :) However, if I can't afford to easily replace the item financially, I buy the warranty. In the case of a $2000+ USD MBP, I'd buy AC+.

the apple care for MacBook has always been worth it for me. At least I'd get a battery swap at end of warranty. I dont get it with other devices because I never broke an iPhone and apple didnt want to fix the scratch on sapphire Apple Watch.

WIth this new MacBook, I noticed that I did 91 battery cycles and the battery still shows 100% battery life. Not sure if this is accurate or if Apple has some new battery tech in this. The big reason I got AC+ on this Mac was because replacing the screen on this thing will probably cost a fortune if I ever crack it. Also my previous 2019 MBP had a weird liquid stain on the screen for no reason after 1 year. I use this MacBook daily and didnt want to risk having to pay for a new screen if anything. Apple is good about replacing the screen if you have even 1 dead pixel. im sure this Mac will be solid for years but who knows about these new expensive screens. The M1P is fast so I doubt I'll upgrade for a while.

In my opinion, Apple Care is worth it if the Mac is the only device you use and you use it often. If you take it out of the house, its definitely worth it.

In the U.S. you have to be careful about using home insurance. Too many claims and your rates may go up or they may refuse to renew the policy.

Personally I always purchase it with my Apple Devices. It is worth it to me to not be worrying if something happens to them.

Applecare+ is always a money drain since a lot of countries now have 2 or 3 years waranty, so
applecare+ should opt for those who knows that they damage their devices in general and i see a lot of people who also buy it because, in case they drop their macs they cannot afford to buy another one

I Always get applecare for peace of mind, and because I hold onto my devices for a few years. I’ll be getting AppleCare plus when I get my MBP 14” this week.

Just to add to this as I know it's always a quandary. I bought it yesterday for my M1 MBP 14in that I picked up last week. First time I ever signed on for it. €299 over 3 years works out at €8 a month. No brainer as I'll take mine everywhere when I travel on business Off to Dallas today from Dublin and lots of putting his MBP in airport trays etc etc for security.

The screen is too good and the laptop too good to risk it.

I have had Macs since 1986. I keep them 5 to 10 years. I have a 2012 retina MBP and just bought an M1.
I have never bought Apple Care and have not needed it. No3 30 years later if I have to get the M1 repaired I saved enough to pay for it.

Yup, AppleCare for me! Anything that happens to my base MBP 14" is going to be an expensive fix, so it's peace of mind. I signed up for the yearly Applecare+ so that I can let it run as long as I see fit, and due to the minimal upfront outlay after the expensive MBP purchase.

Slightly OT but I've had a 3rd party insurer solely for my mid 2009 MBP with accidental damage cover...for ever and a day now. Got it after Apple refused cover within the original Apple Care time when having moved overseas. It had the slightest ding top of screen corner and the internal fluid markers were activated (attribute this to AC Airports going to high outside humidity).
So it all worked, until it didn't and the logic board was toast w/out power. Apple wanted €1600. I found this lil mac affiliated repair shop that did component level repairs for 15% of the Apple quote. They got me onto that insurer they work closely with.
Since then it had a few subwoofers, couple dings panel beated, WiFi card, rubber feet, some batteries, screen (because of loose hinges), countless optical drives and power supplies, power brick, and more I can't remember, replaced. Off course some parts sourced many years now from the parts bin. The keyboard's been flawless. Yup, still waiting for them to declare the MBP and myself a financial liability ?

I think you made the right decision. AppleCare especially makes sense if your MBP is spec’d higher like yours
