Now that at&t has fully taken over cingular. I have seen some changes to their online store. Correct me if I'm wrong but I do not remember cingular having the no commitment option for buying cell phones on their online store. Well at least not as clearly marked AT&T phones For every single phone they sell they have an option to buy a cell phone with no commitment. Also people are noticing the iphone ads have been updated(no small print on 2 year contract).

I feel at&t has a different policy when it comes to their contracts. I would not be surprised if there is an slightly more expensive no commitment option for the iphone or maybe even the same price. But I guess if you buy the phone and its locked in with AT&T then its a 500 dollar commitment. What are your thoughts on this?

Hmmm I believe Cingular took over AT&T (and now are using the AT&T name because its so recognizable)

http://money.cnn.com/2004/02/17/technology/cingular_att/

"Cingular has won AT&T Wireless for $41 billion, topping a rival bid from Britain's Vodafone. CNNfn's Fred Katayama reports.

The deal would make Cingular the largest wireless carrier, ahead of Verizon Wireless, with about 46 million subscribers."

But then ATT bought the group of telecomm company's that owned Cingular. It's confusing to say the least. As far as contracts go, we'll know on the 29th at 6pm what the deal is, maybe a bit before. Everything else is just speculations so don't waste your time.

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?!?!? That was a long time ago!!!! Now ATT ownes cingular! And they have around 56 million subscribers.

You could say that again LOL!

"...T&T Mobility has 62 million subscribers as of 2007, and operates the largest digital voice and data network in the United States.[6]

Formerly a joint venture between SBC Communications and BellSouth, Cingular Wireless soon acquired the old AT&T Wireless; SBC later acquired the original AT&T and rebranded as "the new AT&T". Cingular became wholly-owned by the new AT&T in December 2006 as a result of AT&T's acquisition of BellSouth."

thats almost funny :D

once SBC purchased AT&T wireline... they took on the AT&T moniker and brand because it is better for business (more recognizable). Then SBC (at&t) merged with Bellsouth, then the new at&t (Bellsouth & SBC) wholly owned Cingular and said... "hey we might as well change Cingular to at&t also... so we can sell ALL our at&t products (home phone, DSL, DISH Network, cell phones and coming soon U-Verse) at one point of sale...

Check this out, funny but absolutely true:

Ok that is hilarious

The online store looks exactly the same as the Cingular store except for the AT&T logo. Absolutely nothing has changed in the way the pricing is reflected. Cingular's store also had price and then 2-year contract price.
