So just like most I waited in line, not for hours but about 15 minutes. The AT&T store I went less than 1/4 mile from my local Apple store didn't have many people waiting at 5:45....

I played with it for awhile and came to this conclusion:

Apple can do better... and AT&T HAS to do better.

I was planning on buying the iPhone to replace my Treo 650 but decided it wasn't worth it.

1) No Bluetooth Sync... why not? - Software Update Please

2) The network...I was in the AT&T store and the signal was weak (I'm just outside Metro NY it isn't exactly the middle of Iowa).

3) The netowork again...The page loads really were slow. I usually use the bluetooth in my Treo to have my MBP connect via the dialup networking onto the Sprint network, slow but still more than twice the speed of the EDGE.

4) Dialing a call takes too many steps. It seems that while this is a "phone" it was designed first as a phone. Its more like a sidekick meets and iPod. Calls arn't the priority. - Software Update Please

5) Battery only gets aroudn 400 charges until it has to be replaced...for me thats at best 2 years and then I don't have my only phone for a few weeks while Apple puts in a new battery...no thanks. If they can do something where its an in-store repair that can be done in a few hours I'll go for it.

6) As good as the internet was it isn't the same as being able to connect through my laptop. I have a MB that is dedicated to work and I many times need to send out files from locations that don't have WiFi anywhere nearby so my phone is my link. - Software Update Please

the controls were awesome...I didn't have any problems with the keyboard but maybe my treo experience helps. I know that some of the issues that I have can be solved with a simple software update and I'm willing to wait for that software update to come. I did use my place in line anyway and bought for a friend who couldn't wait so it wasn't a total loss of time. As a former Apple employee I just expected a bit better. Maybe I'm still under the impression its main function is to be a phone.
