Whenever Google releases an update to its operating system, it is not immediately available to all android devices. The release of update depends on the Telcos and the phone manufacturers (HTC, Motorola, Samsung...etc). It may takes weeks or months to reach the devices, it may even not reach the devices (A manufacturer may produce many android devices, it will be very COSTLY to update all the devices - only selected devices will be updated). Example, HTC announced that 2.0 will arrive to HTC Hero, what about other android phones such as HTC Magic?
If there are bugs in the OS, you will be stuck with the faulty OS for as long as the update didn't reach you. Now, what happen if developers develop their applications based upon the latest OS? You will 'forever' be stuck with 'old' applications.
The idea of relying on Telcos and Manufacturers to release OS update is a BIG mistake !!! At least to the consumers.
I will stick with my iPhone as long as Google didn't change its stance.
