I've made up my mind to buy an iPad for our household.
However I've decided to wait probably three or four months for the following features which I consider a must for my family to get full value from it.
It has to be 3g. Can't see the point in having one without it when it will be available soon.
Will have to be able to run the full suite of games associated with Facebook as my three daughters love these. Doesn't interest me, but everyone to their own.
Multitasking with 4.0. Would consider it a major step back from my macbook pro to have to use the iPad without multitasking. Once again, only a few months away.
As I'm in the graphics business, I would like an app to allow editing of Illustrator files. I could use it for showing and editing visuals to my clients on site. I'm not holding my breath on that one though and it will not be the deal breaker.
Roll on August

Seems odd you say you want one but will wait until 4.0 ships. You are effectively ripping yourself off of 3-4 months of use if that's true. Its not like the iPad is going to be less expensive or gain new exclusive features in a few months. Everyone who buys their 3G in a couple weeks will receive the 4.0 upgrades too.

Also the iPad is not a MBP replacement. Many reviewers who raved about the iPad noted that people who think they can replace it w/ their notebook will be disappointed. For example even if their is multi-tasking in 4.0 there still isn't native printing.

After a few years of waiting, you might not still be happy to wait any longer... This will never happen, as the likelihood that the iPad will ever get Flash is slim to none.

I say if you're going to wait 4 months you might as well just wait until next year to get a gen 2 version. 4 months is a third of the life expectancy for my iPad.

If the iPad has to fill everything you mentioned in your thread, I don't think you'll ever buy one.

I still think you'll give in and buy one in the end though.

Why do you need 3g for your household? If it's really for the household, then it won't really be leaving the house.

The facebook games will be adapted to run without flash and soon.
A unit that can't be used away from my wifi would be pointless.
4.0 and multi tasking is three to four months away.
That explains my reasons for waiting

So far, you are the only person to confirm that Multitask is occuring.

Am I getting this right that you don't want to use your own WiFi network at home?

You can't say for certain that Facebook games will be adapted to run without flash. There are still many things you can't do without Adobe's flash.

iirc zynga are porting games to the iphone/ipad?

Of course I want to use my home wifi. But I can't see why anyone would want to be limited to that alone. Whenever I'm travelling, I want to use the iPad wherever I happen to be. Whether that's on business or holidays or whatever.
Multitasking is coming to 4.0 for the iPhone so I'm assuming to the iPad also. If not, I'm sure there will be a jailbreak remedy for it.
If, as expected , there are say 20 million of these things in peoples homes over the next two years, are you seriously suggesting whoever develops those facebook games will ignore the platform and continue flash only. I don't think so

I work from home, so I'm here quite a bot. No traveling for me. I'll use it at home, my friends home and a select few hot spots (like the Library) that I can get access to. No need for 3G.

I don't call that limited, but smart because I wouldn't get any use out of it (3G).

So we assume that 4.0 will multitask? Seems like everyone thought the iPad was going to multitask, and amazingly, wow it doesn't!

Do we know FOR SURE that Apple won't wait until iPad 2.0 to enable multitasking?

I'm not saying that they will move away from flash - but there are many things you can not do with HTML5 that you can with Adobe's Flash.

I'm a student, and I doubt that I'll need 3G for it. Now, if you're needing something such as a tablet, as to what you are referencing it for- (business), then I'd be looking at a proper netbook or laptop.

Yeah like make a horrible and useless fast food restaurant chain web site.

That is one area where flash dominates over HTML5.

Although I am not sure people compare HTML5 to Flash. That is like comparing a neighborhood to a bicycle.

I know - unfortunately, I couldn't think of anything else to compare Flash to, that might work on the iPad... unless you want Silverlight, which IMHO, is better than Flash, but I'm not sure how it'd work on a Mac, let alone iPhone OS.
