I don't plan on upgrading to big sur anytime soon and i just saw that there is an update for garageband available, is there a reason why the garageband update requires Big Sur? the new Logic Pro and Final Cut updates that came out today as well don't require big sur

The new GB is actually pretty sharp. If you use the current GB, you'll know how to use Logic. There was always that sort of mixed mishmash between the two programs before, now it really feels like stepping stones.

I used patchers and went to BS on both my 2012 machines, but my Cat hack wont be going to BS anytime soon, So I guess I am stuck with the red dot on the app store.
Whats BS? and whats cat hack?
I personally deleted the macappstore from my dock to avoid looking at the red dot update notification lol, don't need to see that in my dock.

The other apps like Pages also say they have a "refined new design for Big Sur" -- however, they do not require Big Sur. This seems like a bug. I was chatting with Apple support tonight and was told the following:

"Upon double checking, it seems like Apple is aware of this issue and Engineering is currently working on a resolution. There is nothing more that we can do for now. Please be sure to watch for updates that will include fixes."

Looks like a bug.

How is it a bug? The description of the app clearly says it requires “Big Sur” in the description on the App Store..

The bug is at least that it is being offered to systems that are running Catalina and can't be upgraded to Big Sur--yet it shows as an available update. The "fix" from Apple might be that it doesn't actually require Big Sur. However, if it indeed does require Big Sur, then the "fix" might be to simply remove it as an available update on a system that can't be upgraded to Big Sur.

Does this new version GarageBand have an overhauled new design? The new Logic Pro that got updated for Big Sur doesn’t have a new look..
