I couldn't agree more with this: http://theflashblog.com/?p=1888

As an OS-X user and slight Apple fanboy i'm ashamed and disappointed with Apple's recent moves and hatred towards Adobe. The latter works hard to improve Flash for mobile devices, yet Apple seems to have no interest to collaborate and support it, instead they're being d*cks to Adobe and spewing more hatred towards them with the latest SDK move which makes no sense at all other than being like a dictatorship (oh how i remember the '1984' ad). The new CS5 tools would've been amazing to use for the appstore development, but it seems Steve Jobs is getting pretty arrogant and hostile, not just towards Google but Adobe too.

The only reason why Apple still sells Mac's is probably because of Adobe.

Frelling right. There is no other reason why one should buy a Mac.

Or are those consumer using no Adobe products at all?
Or are there even any other software companies which write software for Mac OS X?

Do you honestly think most people buy Macs because of Adobe products?

YES. I only bought my Mac to use Flash exclusively. I heard it runs better on a Mac than on Solaris.

In all seriousness, my post was meant sarcastically towards the OP's comment about Adobe products most probably being the only reason to buy Macs.
Because since the Macintosh platform got more popular, many people use Macs just for simple consuming tasks like browsing and similar stuff. (There were people before, that did those things too, but not in that magnitude as today and as can be witnessed while reading these forums.)

The only Adobe products on those computers are most likely just Flash and maybe the Adobe PDF Reader.

There's no evidence that it has anything to do at all with Adobe related hatred, seeing that it will thwart other third party dev tools too. It's probably related to the way the system handles multi tasking.

Improve Flash for mobile devices? FIRST, they should worry about improving Flash for Macs. Second, adding an iPhone OS export option is not really an improvement. They're just sticking in all the needed libraries into the executable, making enormous and non-native files.

I don't see how. I'd just see more kids learning "Actionscript" and flooding the App Store with crappy apps and games. Amazing would be if Adobe actually dropped the Flash format and went for HTML5. Same Flash IDE, but for HTML5 code.

but it seems Steve Jobs is getting pretty arrogant and hostile, not just towards Google but Adobe too.

Yeah, just like Adobe is hostile towards HTML5 development.

Rubbish.

Gotcha. Yes, your post seemed a bit odd. ;) I missed it, my bad.

In any case, there's already a thread about it here:

https://www.macrumors.com/2010/04/0...xclusion-of-flash-to-iphone-export-continues/

i know without adobe flash, acrobat, illustrator and photoshop (as well as Microsoft Office), I would never have considered mac as an option from start.

maybe not "most", but sure "a lot".

Apple is being a d*ck for sure. But Adobe is also being a whiner, stop whining and quit mac platform already. Why would they even want to produce products for the evil company with no appreciation? for their loyal customers? bundling a windows 7 and Parallels for those would solve the problem.

short term money loss is nothing compare to long term damage.

If Adobe didn't screw up the Flash for Mac, things could be different. Now that we all know that Flash is probably the most ridiculous software for Mac, especially because it's from reputable company called Adobe. They haven't been able to fix it and they have had YEARS to do it, so IMO it's fair that Apple doesn't want Flash on their other products.

If Adobe looked at the mirror, they would found the reason for all this...

P.S. Seeing that HTML5 is becoming more and more popular, we can forget Flash, it's dead soon (hopefully)

you should read the news, its not about flash this time around.

Reality check: Remove Flash from a Mac and 90+% of all crashes and hangs are gone.

Adobe and Apple have been squaring off since Apple first popularized the laser printer and invented desktop publishing. Anybody remember the Font Wars? Adobe has been a stone in their shoe since their first foot-dragging episode over Postscript and Apple had to invent TruType.

To suggest that Apple should stop bullying Adobe is nothing but sappy anthropomorphizing. Adobe has been sand in Apple's gears for more that twenty years. The utter crap that Flash is is just the tip of the iceberg.

Adobe will get what it deserves out of this. If they can't or won't keep up, they'll go under. This is Big Boy School now.

Yeah, it's about people reading about a new rule in the dev agreement, and without having absolutely any idea of why that rule was made, jumping to conclusions and saying it's because of the Adobe "dispute". Like the possibility of it being linked to the new multitasking capabilities is not even to be considered at all.

Flash is a Big bag of hurt Especially on mac when ever Safari/firefox crash on my mac its usually on site's that heavily run Flash. Imo I think silverlight is better and i still think its not perfect I will be happy when HTML 5 takes over.

Steve Jobs couldn't have said it better.

In fact, I think that's exactly the way he did say it...:D

Do you have any original thoughts to add?

Honestly I don't see what the problem is with the majority of Flash applications or sites on the web. The vast minority of Flash websites actually cause my machine to crash. The remaining sites "hog" 10-20% of my CPU when I run across them. Jesus, that only leaves 80% for checking my e-mail!!!! Time to start building my bomb shelter for the apocalypse.

Fact is for the majority of Mac users these days the issue of Flash being a "resource hog" is a total non-issue.

According to Steve Jobs, the majority of Apple users are on portable devices ("We're a Mobile Device Company now"), which means that heat issues and battery life are increasingly critical, which means that resource hogs are problematic, which means that Flash just ain't gonna fly.

I really don't care, I'm just curious to see if Adobe hit back and do something like not support photoshop on Mac. At the end of day though that would harm Adobe as well so I don't think they would do anything.

Ego, hubris, arrogance, whatever you want to call it.

Apple has always been a very arrogant organization, this is nothing new. Its just now apple is a more powerful company and so its being noticed more.

People have realized you don't piss off Steve and get away with it.

heck to prove my point i had 3 beachball hang ups/crashes on Safari and Firefox this was all due to flash when I was attempting to watch MLB.TV which is running on flash i had to watch the rest of the game on my iphone just cause i couldnt take the hangups any more..

I don't really buy that. The Macbook/Pros are advertised with up to 7 hours of battery life, but Flash is supported on those. If the iPad's battery lasts 10 hours, there's no real reason they shouldn't support it on that platform either.

Yes and no. They've always been stingy, I wouldn't necessarily call it arrogant though.

How'd you watch it on the iPhone if it's a Flash app? Or do they have a non-Flash version?
